Three Palaces Festival 2020 x Luke Azzopardi

Transformations & Translations is a multi-disciplinary fashion project for The Three Palaces festival that draws inspiration from the mythological figure of Artemis, known to the Romans as Diana, goddess of the hunt, as well as the overlap between primitive and early historical references and motifs in nineteenth-century architecture. To this end, Transformations & Translations presents a performance where the craft of couture meets music, poetry and dance. Virtually launched, the hybrid-digital performance speaks about the lifetime of an artwork, and the ways in which history can be revisited and reassembled to create the newer narratives of our contemporary moment.

Of Hell And Exile is a multi-faceted, interlinked, fully immersive project designed by Luke Azzopardi Studio. The process-led nature of this project sees a multimedia dialogue between artists who explore Dante’s Divina Commedia through the eyes of Anna Akhmatova.

Akhmatova was one of the few artists who remained in Russia during Stalin’s regime. For Of Hell And Exile, The Akhmatova Songs by John Tavener were performed and recorded by Gillian Zammit and Akos Kertesz. The project speaks of notions of identity, displacement and the universality of human suffering. It aims to unveil a ‘work-in-progress’ style artistic vision with a socio-political tinge.
